AAIC 2020 | Global guidelines for dementia risk reduction

Kaarin Anstey, UNSW Ageing Futures Institute, Sydney, Australia, discusses the guidelines in place to reduce the incidence of dementia. This is particularly important as there is no successful treatment yet for dementia. Therefore, the main aim of these guidelines, advised by the WHO, is to reduce risk and delay the onset of cognitive impairment. These guidelines are strictly evidence-based and follow a specific methodology wherein each recommendation has a different level of evidence. Prof. Anstey concludes that they identified ten different interventions for risk factors such as physical activity, hypertension and cognitive training. This interview was recorded during an online conference call with The Video Journal of Dementia (VJDementia).
