AAIC 2026 | MenoCog: risk and protective factors for cognitive function in the menopause transition

Amber Watts, MD, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, discusses the relationship between menopause transition and cognitive complaints, as well as the MenoCog study (NCT06940466), which aims to investigate cardiometabolic risk factors for cognitive function in women in perimenopause or early postmenopausal stages. The study will explore potential protective factors like exercise and education, as well as risk factors including hot flashes, cardiometabolic risk factors, and insomnia. This interview took place at the 2026 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) in London, UK.
