AAIC 2020 | The effect of infections on mortality rate in dementia patients

Janet Janbeck, MSc, Danish Dementia Research Centre, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark, discusses a study that involved 1.4 million Danish citizens for over 15 years, where she studied the relationship between infections and mortality in those with and without dementia. Results showed that mortality was substantially increased in those with dementia and infection than in those with either dementia or infection alone. Ms Janbeck concluded that further research had to be done to identify the mechanistic pathways of how infections can accelerate neurodegenerative decline. This interview was recorded on a conference call with The Video Journal of Dementia (VJDementia).
