ARUK 2021 | Future perspectives on the study of retina in Alzheimer’s disease

Maya Koronyo-Hamaoui, PhD, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA, comments on the next research steps related to Alzheimer’s pathology in the retina. The need for more investigation on the cause-consequence aspect of recent finds on vascular alterations is discussed. Moreover, the establishment of retina biobanks to complement brain and blood biobanks is an important focus. This would enable the study of not only the vascular component of the disease in the retina but also the study of changes in metabolism, synaptic loss and inflammation in Alzheimer’s disease and other tauopathies. This interview took place during the Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) Conference 2021.
