AAIC 2023 | Brain-body communication in neurodegenerative diseases

Katerina Akassoglou, PhD, from the University of California San Francisco, San Francisco, CA, discusses the bidirectional relationship between the brain and body, and its impact upon neurodegenerative diseases. Various peripheral mechanisms make the brain more vulnerable to neurological disease, whilst the brain also regulates relevant processes within the body. Further exploration of these communication mechanisms enhances the possibility to harness developments in vascular biology, immunology, neuroscience, and hematology to develop novel imaging tools and therapeutics for neurological disorders. Recorded at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2023 held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
