AAN 2022 | Possible causes of empathy deficits in patients with MCI or Alzheimer’s disease

Giulia Giacomucci, MD, University of Florence, Florence, Italy, discusses recent research into empathy deficits in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who had positive amyloid biomarkers, or Alzheimer’s disease, which found pathologic involvement of the specific brain areas involved in empathy. Dr Giacomucci discusses the implications of these findings and the possible future directions of this research.
