AAIC 2020 | Neurovascular dysfunction and Alzheimer’s disease pathology

Costantino Iadecola, MD, Feil Family Brain and Mind Research Institute, Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, NY, discusses how pathogenic proteins in Alzheimer’s disease, namely tau and amyloid-β, can cause neurovascular dysfunction. Pathogenic factors can impact the brain via both neurons and blood vessels, causing synaptic impairment and inhibiting oxygen and blood flow. Thus, Dr Iadecola concludes that vascular abnormalities are imperative for clinical diagnosis of dementia. This interview was recorded during an online conference with The Video Journal of Dementia (VJDementia).
