Cornelia van Duijn, PhD, Oxford Population Health, Medical Sciences Division, University of Oxford, Oxford, comments on the potential link between varicella zoster virus and dementia. Recent studies have found associations between the virus and an increased risk of dementia, as well as a lower risk of dementia after vaccination against shingles. This research has sparked interest in exploring the role of infectious diseases in dementia and may have implications for vaccination strategies and future research directions. This interview took place at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference® (AAIC) 2024 in Philadelphia, PA.
