AAIC 2023 | Digitally enhanced E-FINGER interventions for the prevention of dementia

Alina Solomon, MD, PhD, University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio, Finland, discusses current progress on the use of technology to deliver and monitor multimodal lifestyle interventions in the World-Wide FINGER trials. These extensive trials, being conducted in over 60 countries, are dedicated to studying the impact of lifestyle interventions to prevent cognitive decline and dementia. The COVID19 pandemic has increased the need for digitally enhanced adaptations of these lifestyle interventions. This includes interventions that can be delivered through virtual reality, mobile applications, and wearable devices. Technology-based interventions have the potential to broaden accessibility and engagement, while allowing real-time monitoring and feedback. Nonetheless, developing a digital solution suitable for such a diverse population across numerous countries will take some time. This interview took place at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference® (AAIC) 2023 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
