EAN 2023 | Imaging markers in vascular cognitive impairment: the present

Gennaro D’Anna, MD, ASST Ovest Milanese, Legnano, Italy, discusses the imaging markers currently used in vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) and how they contribute to the diagnosis and understanding of VCI. Currently used biomarkers mainly focus on specific neuroimaging features, such as white matter hyperintensities and lacunar infarcts. Additionally, brain atrophy and visible enlarged perivascular spaces are other common features of small vessel disease, the major cause of VCI. It is crucial to evaluate the global burden of all the imaging signals and consider their correlation with clinical findings. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2023 Congress in Budapest, Hungary.
